Residue of Ghosts and Offerings

Residue of Ghosts and Offerings (2021) was an exercise in making and presenting art for the ‘more-than-human’. Inspired by animism and eco-philosophies, the project speculated: if we conceived of ourselves in relation to other species, how would we encounter art? And how could art encounters encourage multi-species relations?

At its heart was an exhibition by Huhtamaki Wab, offering food and artwork to a tree on Dartmoor. Its ‘residue’ recounted the offering for human audiences across a constellation of creative outputs: a short story, a film and a zine. Each piece existed in dialogue, defined by its relations. This rhizomatic structure was intentionally reticent, refusing ownership and containment in a small step towards de-colonising thinking and behaviour. It was an invitation to ‘stay with the trouble’, lean into the unknown and follow curiosity.

A non-hierarchical collaboration with artist Huhtamaki Wab, film-maker Dom Moore, poet Sam Machell and graphic designer Jordan Wright.
